Hi there,

I am so happy to finally have someone to talk to about this. I fit all the criteria for MS according to my neurologist because I have 10 lesions and they aren’t tiny ones and I also had one attack so far. The left lower half of my face was numb for over a week. I was told that I have dyemyelination which is most likely MS. Of course I had the spinal tap, thinking it would confirm a definite diagnosis but as it turns out my spinal tap results are now even more confusing because the results are normal. Now my neurologist is sending me to see an MS specialist because this information is now out of his scope. Apparently a normal spinal tap can still mean I do have MS of course we need more time to see if there are any future attacks and another MRI to see if new lesions appear. I am so confused and anxious because I feel like I have no idea what’s going on. Lately I’ve been feeling quite stiff. I have also been feeling horrible fatigue for well over a year now. How many of you have had many lesions but normal spinal tap results??? I would really appreciate your feedback. Thank you!

Hi
And how about MRI-s - head and spinal column? I have it done with each relapse = at least once a year and unfortunately there are always changes to worse ones. MRIs show a lot so for sure ask your doctor for such kind of check.

Hi there! Thank you for responding to my thread! The 10 lesions showed up in the MRI and I’m scheduled to have another MRI in about 6 months to see if there have been changes, unfortunately the waiting period is quite long. Have you had a spinal tap?

What about Evoked potential tests. Evoked potential testing is harmless and painless. They measure electrical activity in certain areas of the brain in response to stimulation of certain groups of nerves. they can indicate problems along the pathways of certain nerves that are too subtle to be noticed.

Problems along the nerve pathways are a direct result of the disease. The demyelination causes the nerve impulses to be slowed, garbled, or halted altogether.

You may want to ask about this test as well.

I also had lesions show up in my MRI scan but the spinal showed no bandings. I have numbness and tingling constant in my hands and feet and dizziness, headaches all the time. I have had where my face has gone completely numb for a couple of days at a time. It is very confusing and wish you luck.
