Am from a hot place and MS was diagnosed in Germany a year back. I would like to know if the hot weather makes the symtoms worst, as I am very often facing legs pain? Secondly, what to do against the posychological problems due to MS? Thirdly does Betaferon have any side effects? like being double minded and not able to think clearly?
Did you find the answers to the Betaseron question and having trouble thinking? My doctor put me on Topomax which drove me crazy. I cannot take drugs like Neurotin, Nortriptyln, or Cymbalta. They make me crazy.
Hi, my name is Deb. I know that my doctor told me that people with MS should not go into hot tubs or saunas. I asked why and she said she couldn’t remember why, but that it is something to do with a reaction to the heat. I did ask he about environments that are best for a person with MS and she said the dryer, warmer states such as AZ. I do know many people with arthritic problems go to these states and have less flare ups. humdidity tends to cause inflammation which obviously isn’t a good thing. So in thinking this out, possibly the hot tub is due to the increased heat and sweating and at times I have gotten headaches when in the hot tub. I’m not much for saunas but it is dry in those areas. I’m just wondering if the excess heat and humidity traumatizes the bodies cells. If you get a definitive answer please let us know. I just know over the past couple years the cold causes me to ache all over. It gets right into my bones and I can’t get warm. The acheing goes strait to my spine. . .I ache just thinking of it and I live in the Upper Michigan with cold winters!

Hi....I am new to the board but this information is posted on nmss.org. Thought it might help.
Many people with MS experience a temporary worsening of their symptoms when the weather is very hot or humid or they run a fever, sunbathe, get overheated from exercise, or take very hot showers or baths. For example, some people notice that their vision becomes blurred when they get overheated—a phenomenon known as Uhthoff’s sign. These temporary changes can result from even a very slight elevation in core body temperature (one-quarter to one-half of a degree) because an elevated temperature further impairs the ability of a demyelinated nerve to conduct electrical impulses.
Cold Can Also Be a Problem Some people with MS notice that symptoms, particularly spasticity, become worse in cold weather. It is generally recommended that people with MS who are sensitive to temperature try to avoid extremes of either hot or cold, and that people who are considering a move to a "better" climate try to visit first to see if the climate change is, indeed, beneficial.
I live in West Texas and I can tell you dry heat with little humdity can still causing overwhemming fatigue.
