Paroxysmal symptoms

The term “paroxysmal” refers to symptoms that appear suddenly - occur frequently and eventually disappear completely. They may pertain to movement, sensory or visual problems and have a tendency to recur in always the same pattern and last a few minutes or even less than 20 seconds. They are often triggered by movement or sensory stimuli.

Some of them are highly characteristic of MS, for instance stuttering (dysarthria) and seizures. They are normally an early feature of the condition, but usually respond well to therapy.
